Finding Connection: The Heart of the Circle of Security

Reflecting on her children's innocent conversation about finding connection in heaven, the author recognizes our inherent desire for relationship security.

Hidden in Plain Sight

The other day my children were talking about who they might meet when they get to heaven. They wondered if they met up with their grandfather if he would recognize his grandchildren. As they talked, I thought to myself, ‘Here it is again, the Circle of Security.’ Thinking about Heaven, my children did not imagine it to be a place where they would be all alone. They imagined it a destination where relationships wait, a place to find connection with loved ones we’ve lost. This is attachment, and attachment is always hidden in plain sight. And this is the Circle of Security.
