Strategies for Video Reflection in COS Parenting: Getting More From What’s Already There
Video clips are one of COSP’s most powerful teaching tools and their impact depends on how facilitators use reflection to make meaning for caregivers. This workshop introduces the Reflective Ladder, a systematic four-rung approach (Show, Describe, Wonder, Land) that builds on familiar COSP tools like Seeing and Guessing, When/Then, and Ask, Don’t Tell to deepen caregiver reflection and understanding. Participants will explore the concepts behind video review and learn how to apply them directly to existing COSP video material.
Please join Joe Coyne, an endorsed educational & developmental and clinical psychologist in Australia, as he demonstrates and models the method throughout the session.

Description
A COSP facilitator’s reflection with caregivers maximizes the impact of the COSP video material. The aim is for caregivers to learn the chapter goals by reflecting on the video clips, so they can apply that learning to the relationship with their own children. Encouraging meaningful reflection with caregivers is key to maximizing the impact of COSP’s video material. When caregivers can see the program’s learning goals with greater clarity within the clips, that deeper understanding translates more readily into moments with their own children.
Facilitators were introduced to reflection using COSP tools like Seeing and Guessing; When/Then; Ask, Don’t Tell; The Path to Security, etc. This workshop introduces the Reflective Ladder as a systematic approach to deepen these skills. The four rungs on the ladder are: Show, Describe, Wonder, and Land. Participants will receive background and deeper exploration of the concepts and methods of video review, and how these can be applied to existing COSP video material. Joe Coyne, endorsed educational & developmental and clinical psychologist in Australia, will demonstrate and model this approach throughout the workshop.
