V!brant Emotional Health Implementing COSP in New York City

This is the story of a remarkable multiyear effort to bring Circle of Security Parenting to New York City, America's largest city, and one of its most diverse.

V!brant's Initiative  Initiative for Family Mental Health

V!brant Emotional Health's implementation of Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) in New York City stands as a testament to what's possible when innovative programming meets committed community action.

New York City's unique tapestry of cultures and communities presented both challenges and opportunities for COSP implementation. The program strategically focused on Harlem and the Bronx. This targeted approach allowed for deep community engagement while addressing critical needs in historically underserved neighborhoods.

Leadership and Partnership

The Backbone of Success Under the guidance of V!brant (formerly the Mental Health Association of New York) and with crucial funding from the NYC Department of Health, the program assembled a remarkable team of paraprofessionals trained in COSP. They established no-cost group sessions across a network of familiar community locations - from school buildings to apartment complexes.

Measuring Reach

The statistics tell a compelling story: 2,706 caregivers completed COSP groups in 2019-2020 alone. But perhaps more impressive was the program's resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic when the team transitioned to online platforms without losing its essential services to families. Learn more about remote facilitation of COSP and how COSP can help children navigate the Covid-19 Pandemic.
