Description

Learn to bring the Circle of Security to classrooms and early care settings. Help teachers follow the Circle of Security to understand and apply attachment theory in the classroom, manage relationship struggles, and support children's social-emotional learning.

Early childhood represents a critical period in human development, where the foundation for lifelong learning and emotional well-being is established. In early care settings, children must cultivate a range of cognitive skills and social-emotional competencies that prepare them not only for academic success but also for the challenges of adulthood.

The Circle of Security (COS) Classroom Approach provides a research-based framework to guide educators and caregivers in fostering secure attachment relationships with children, emphasizing the profound impact these connections have on school readiness and overall development.

This two-tier Approach is designed to help early care professionals apply attachment theory in group care settings. It incorporates a vast body of research in attachment and developmental psychology. The focus of this online course is Tier 1: COSP Classroom Professional Learning Series, which equips Registered COSP Facilitators with the tools and strategies necessary to support educators in implementing COS principles effectively in early care settings.

Classroom Facilitators who complete this course are encouraged to continue the learning by enrolling in Tier 2, COSC Coaching, for guided implementation of COS concepts in the classroom. Providing additional coaching with early care professionals requires further training and endorsement as a COSC Coach.

Course Outline

This 16-hour, self-paced online course is available for 60 days after enrollment. The course includes instruction time, learning activities, handouts, and a workbook. The training combines video observations, hands-on learning exercises, and reflection opportunities.

The COS Classroom Approach is a two-tier model. This online course for Registered COSP Facilitators offers training to facilitate Tier 1: COSP Classroom Professional Learning Series with early care providers and/or preschool teachers.

Tier 1 equips early care professionals with learning opportunities, provides a clear model of children’s attachment needs, and highlights the importance of the educator in responding to these needs. In other words, it makes the theory of attachment accessible and applicable in group care in the classroom.

With a COSP Classroom facilitator, early care professionals complete the COSP 8-chapter video-based series which provides a clear model of children’s attachment needs. The learning
