Course Outline

Description

This self-guided online course is designed for graduates of the COS-Intensive Assessment Training and gives participants a chance to review Strange Situation Procedures (SSP) and Circle of Security Interviews (COSI) from four carefully selected cases, using downloadable resources. The participant will have the chance to complete analysis of SSP and COSI videos by filling out a Linchpin Worksheet for each case. The Linchpin Worksheet is a structured form allowing the learner to enter specific data from the SSP and COSI that inform your understanding of the key struggle that each dyad presents.

After each participant has reviewed the case material, they'll then have the chance to re-watch the Strange Situation Procedure and Circle of Security Interviews, this time with narration by a COS-Intensive expert (Bert Powell or Joe Coyne). This will give each participant the opportunity to "see the case through the eyes of an expert" and to compare the participant's analysis of the linchpin to that of a clinical expert.

In the last section of the course, we've included brief narrated overviews of the treatment of two of the cases along with a pair of readings on assessment and treatment using the COS-Intensive protocol.

Course Outline

Self-guided online learning wherein participants build their skills using case material from actual clients who completed the COS-Intensive intervention. This course is step 3 on the COS-Intensive learning pathway and can only be taken by those who have completed COSP training and the Intensive Assessment course. The course is completed by analyzing video of SSP and Circle of Security interviews and filling out a Linchpin Worksheet–a structured summary of the participant’s analysis. Participants then get to compare their analysis with the analysis of an expert COS-Intensive trainer.
Any registered COSP Facilitators interested in the individualized assessment that underlies the COS-Intensive protocol. (Note: those who are not licensed therapists will not be able to go on to the next course in the training pathway)

COSP Facilitators who are licensed psychotherapists and interested in going on to certification as a COS-Intensive Provider.

Licensed psychotherapists who are in practice settings that allow for comprehensive, individualized parenting intervention.

Licensed psychotherapists who work with high-risk populations for whom interventions like COSP may not be in-depth enough.
Video Analyses: SSP and COSI videos featuring high-risk parent-child dyads who participated in the intervention and consented to the use of their video material for training.

Practical Tools: Summary documents useful for case analysis.

Hands-on, Case-Based Approach with expert video so that participants can compare their analysis to an experienced provider/trainer.

Flexible Learning Experience: Approximately 30 hours of content over four months.

Online submission of a Linchpin Worksheet for each dyad is required for course completion.
To increase capacity to analyze the Strange Situation Procedure including defining each dyad’s Linchpin Issue
