COSP Facilitator Trainings

The Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator training is now available in four formats. Each of these formats share learning objectives and, when completed, each training leads to endorsement as a COSP Facilitator. At the end of each of the trainings, the learner will:

  • Understand the theoretical foundation of the Circle of Security;
  • Be able to shift caregiver focus from behavior management to enhancing the quality of relationship;
  • Understand the specific steps to build self-reflection in caregivers;
  • Be able to use video examples to support increased empathy in caregivers;
  • Identify new options to help caregivers manage emotions;
  • Learning step-by-step approaches to promoting secure attachment in children.

1

In-person COSP Training

The In-Person 4-day COSP Facilitator training is available in certain markets where group gatherings are allowed. We hope to expand availability of this in-person experience in 2022 and beyond. As new sites are confirmed, the listing below will be updated. This training has been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education credit certified by the US-based National Association for Social Workers.

2

1-Week Online COSP Training

A 1-week Online COSP Facilitator training that is designed to be an immersive experience designed for those able to clear their schedules for a week and focus exclusively on the training content, which includes ~16 hours of recorded video plus ~10 hours of live online discussion with a COSP Trainer. Learners tell us that they spend a total of ~35 hours in total completing this blended learning experience so this online training format is not recommended for those unable to commit to making the COSP Training their primary focus for the week. This training has been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education credit certified by the US-based National Association for Social Workers.

3

2-Week Online COSP Training

A 2-week Online COSP Facilitator training that allows providers not able to clear their schedules to have access to the exact same material as the other online training. Instead of meeting every day for a week for live sessions, however, this training includes live sessions spread in ~2-hour chunks across a 2-week span. Learners tell us that both evening and weekend study are required to complete this blended learning experience, particularly when the learner is working full-time. This training has been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education credit certified by the US-based National Association for Social Workers.

4

Norwegian Language Trainings

These COSP trainings are conducted in Norwegian. They are available as either online/live streamed or in-person trainings. Each training lasts 4 days. Learners who attend these trainings will attain a COSP certification assuming they do not miss any of the 4 days of training. If an attendee does miss a day of training, they will have the opportunity to make up that missed day in a later training at no additional cost.

Below is a listing of upcoming trainings in each format. Click the “Learn More” button for more details regarding each training option.

COS-Intensive Assessment Training

Joe Coyne talks about the differences between COSP and COS-Intensive in this short video.

The Circle of Security Parenting program arose from an intensive, individualized psychotherapy protocol (what we now call COS-Intensive) which was among the first interventions explicitly tied to attachment research and focused on promoting security in specific caregiver-child relationships. Recently, we have begun to reshape training in the COS-Intensive intervention in order to make this training more accessible and efficient. If interested, we recommend you read more about the reshaping of the COS-Intensive training. Additionally, check out the COS Intensive in Sweden story on our COSP in the Community page to learn about two child psychologists in Sweden who have been offering COS Intensive since 2016. Currently, the central COS-Intensive training is a 5-day In Person training focusing on our manual for Individualized Attachment Assessment that is key to the COS-Intensive protocol. Below are upcoming options for providers interested in learning the backbone of the COS-Intensive protocol: how to create a treatment plan from structured, comprehensive attachment assessment. This is a case-based training that introduces providers to our Assessment manual, provides an overview of Core Sensitivities and reviews how to conduct and unpack the Strange Situation Procedure and the Circle of Security Interview.

Self-Directed Online Learning

You will have 30 days to complete the course from the time you first log in. The course has been approved for 16 Continuing Education credits, and you should anticipate that it will take approximately 16 hours of work to complete the content.
