COSP Facilitator Trainings

The Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator training is now available in four formats. Each of these formats share learning objectives and, when completed, each training leads to endorsement as a COSP Facilitator. At the end of the COSP Facilitator training, the Facilitator who has met the learning outcomes will be able to:

  • Identify the fundamentals of attachment theory and key concepts of the Circle of Security approach.
  • Identify the features of a safe learning environment for caregivers.
  • Identify the ways in which a Facilitator can teach caregivers to use quality of relationship enhancement rather than behavior management.
  • Identify steps the Facilitator can take to build self-reflection in caregivers.
  • Explain how to facilitate the COSP model using video examples of parent-child relationships, the COSP Facilitator manual, and handouts.

1

In-person COSP Training

The In-Person 4-day COSP Facilitator training is available in certain markets where group gatherings are allowed. We hope to expand availability of this in-person experience in 2022 and beyond. As new sites are confirmed, the listing below will be updated. This training has been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education credit certified by the US-based National Association for Social Workers.

2

1-Week Online COSP Training

A 1-week Online COSP Facilitator training that is designed to be an immersive experience designed for those able to clear their schedules for a week and focus exclusively on the training content, which includes ~16 hours of recorded video plus ~10 hours of live online discussion with a COSP Trainer. Learners tell us that they spend a total of ~35 hours in total completing this blended learning experience so this online training format is not recommended for those unable to commit to making the COSP Training their primary focus for the week. This training has been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education credit certified by the US-based National Association for Social Workers.

3

2-Week Online COSP Training

A 2-week Online COSP Facilitator training that allows providers not able to clear their schedules to have access to the exact same material as the other online training. Instead of meeting every day for a week for live sessions, however, this training includes live sessions spread in ~2-hour chunks across a 2-week span. Learners tell us that both evening and weekend study are required to complete this blended learning experience, particularly when the learner is working full-time. This training has been approved for 24 hours of Continuing Education credit certified by the US-based National Association for Social Workers.

4

Norwegian Language Trainings

These COSP trainings are conducted in Norwegian. They are available as either online/live streamed or in-person trainings. Each training lasts 4 days. Learners who attend these trainings will attain a COSP certification assuming they do not miss any of the 4 days of training. If an attendee does miss a day of training, they will have the opportunity to make up that missed day in a later training at no additional cost.

Below is a listing of upcoming trainings in each format. Click the “Learn More” button for more details regarding each training option.

Self-Directed Online Learning

These online courses are completely self-directed, with no live meetings to coordinate or schedule around. Our tech team will support you throughout your access period; we have found that learners who do not consider themselves to be tech savvy have an easy time using our learning website and managing both the video and written content.

COSP Classroom Master Course

This online training is available to Registered COSP-Facilitators and focuses on facilitating COSP with childcare providers and/or preschool teachers. Facilitators interested in helping early care professionals to apply COSP principles into group care settings will gain insight both in ways to help teachers use COSP to manage relationship struggles while holding multiple Circles in the classroom, and to organize their understanding about the complexity of relationships in working directly with children while partnering with parents. Registered Facilitators who complete this master training will receive access to additional facilitation materials including a revised COSP classroom facilitator manual and handouts and will receive additional endorsement as a Registered COSP-Classroom Facilitator.

You will have 60 days to complete the course from the time you first log in. The course has been approved for 16 Continuing Education credits, and you should anticipate that it will take approximately 16 hours of work to complete the content.

A prerequisite to this course is completion of a minimum of two rounds of COSP facilitation. Your learning in COSP Classroom Master Course will be enriched if your previous facilitation includes early care professionals since, to deepen the learning, this course invites reflections on your previous work with educators.
