To register for the Circle of Security Assessment & Treatment Planning Exam, you must have attended and completed the 10-Day Intensive Training course. All applicants will be cross-referenced with our attendance records.

The Circle of Security exam fee is $350.00 USD. We require a signed Confidentiality Oath which is available for download below.

Please expect the written exam and 2-DVD set to arrive via mail within 2-3 weeks.

Your completed exam and the COS exam is to be emailed, and the DVDs are to be returned, within 6 months after you receive them. We will notify you by email that your completed exam package was received, within 30 days of its receipt. Within six months of receiving your exam, we will will complete scoring and notify you by email of your results. If you decide not to complete the exam, you must still return the DVDs within the specified time period. You may not duplicate DVDs.

Because psychologists, educators, childcare professionals, counselors, and others have found these graphics to be useful for parents and professionals in explaining the core themes of attachment behavior in young children, we want to make them readily available through this website. Please see the Materials and Permissions section of this page for more information.

For specific requests related to publishing Circle of Security materials, approval is given only to non-profit organizations and academic/professional publications upon review by Circle of Security International. Please email info(at)circleofsecurityinternational(dot)com to receive a permission request form. Requests take approximately 4 weeks to review.

Although we would very much like to be of assistance, we simply do not have the time available for consultation at such a level. Attachment related material raises many concerns and opens many insights as it is being learned. Please consider contacting a professional in your local area.

We do not have any affiliation with the Mary D. Ainsworth Child-Parent Attachment Clinic or their Circle of Security® trainings. Dr. Robert Marvin has co-ownership of the Circle of Security trademark for the graphic, and is part of our research history. The trainings offered by his group are different in structure and content from the Circle of Security protocol given by Cooper, Hoffman, and Powell. Neither training translates to the other.

No. The trainings we provide are for the practitioners to learn how to use the COS protocol. For COSP™ classes from Registered Circle of Security Parenting Facilitators, use our Directory.

The COSP™ Facilitator Training is eligible for 24 CEUs through NASW. For information on CEUs for other trainings, please contact angie[at]circleofsecurityinternational[dot]com.


Once we receive attendance records from your COSP™ Facilitator training, we are able to begin the process of activating your member account. The timeline of this process depends on when we receive the necessary information from our local hosts. Please contact us at info[at]circleofsecurityinternational[dot]com if it has been over 30 days since your training and you have yet to receive your login information.

Please email info[at]circleofsecurityinternational[dot]com and we can update you email and assign you a temporary password.


Registration fees must be paid 10 days prior to the start of the training. If there is a delay in receiving payment you risk not receiving access to the training. Access will not be granted until payment is received.

  • Paid placeholders will be honored and transferred as needed (per our transfer policy).
  • Unpaid placeholders, without regular communication with our office, will be removed once the training reaches sold out capacity or no later than 2 weeks after registration, whichever comes first.
  • Placeholders must be identified no later than 3 weeks prior to the start of the training.
  • A full refund of your registration will be granted if requested no later than 2 weeks prior to the start of the training.
  • A cancellation fee of $200 USD per person will be assessed if cancelled within 2 weeks of the start of the training.
  • No refunds will be issued 48 hours prior to the start of the training. However the registration can be transferred to a future training.
  • A maximum of 2 transfers will be accommodated.
  • Training must be completed within 1 year of the initial transfer.
  • Once a registration has been transferred, a refund is not an option. A substitute assigned if the original attendee is no longer able.
  • Substitute attendee may be designated if original attendee is unable to attend.
  • We must have full attendee information no later than 48 hours prior to the start of the training to ensure access to the course.

Attendance in the live Zoom sessions are required in addition to the online learning elements for completion of this training. The sessions are recorded in the case of emergency or in the event of connection failure. But you should make all efforts to fully attend the sessions. If you know you have scheduling conflicts with the live meeting times, please choose a different training.

If an emergency arises during the training and you are unable to complete the training, you will have the option to transfer to a future training. You will need to complete the future training in it’s entirety (partial credit doesn’t transfer). Transfer policy applies.

You can purchase a 1 week extension to the course in the event that you do not complete the content on time. You will be charged $100 for the one week access. Access will not be granted until payment has been received. Communicate with your training host to purchase an extension.

  • If you are registering as a small or large group, and are receiving the corresponding group rate discount, you understand and agree to the following terms and conditions:
    • Small group of 5-9 people — 10% off cost of training.
    • Large group of 10 or more people — 15% off cost of training.
    • All groups need to pay in one format (one credit card transaction, one check, or one purchase order)
    • This discount is available during Early Bird registration period only.
    • Funds are quoted and need to be received in US Dollars.
    • International transfers at client cost (example: any initiation and conversion fees).
    • No refunds for cancellations; if someone in the group is unable to attend, you may find someone to take their place.
    • No transfers to a future training for group members.
    • The only way we are able to hold spots for your group is by receiving payment upon registration, or if that’s not possible, by submitting a letter at the time of registration from the CEO, CFO or director of your organization obligating to pay for the requested number of spots, regardless of how many people actually attend.
    • Available spots are determined by available capacity in the training on a first come, first served basis.
    • If payment has not been received in full by the training, your group will not receive your materials. Materials will be made available once payment has been received.
  • If you are an individual paying for yourself to attend the training, you will be required to sign an “Individual Contract” stating that you are licensing the rights to use the facilitator materials and will not give the materials to anyone.
  • If you are an individual whose agency is paying for you to attend the training, your agency will have the option to sign an "Agency Contract." The individual and the agency will be required to sign the contract which allows the agency to hold the facilitator materials in the event that the individual leaves the agency. The agency will then have the option to send another employee to a training at a reduced fee who will use the facilitator materials held from the exiting individual. At no time can the held materials be used by any persons who have not been trained to use the materials by our Circle of Security trainers. The individual leaving the agency will have the option to purchase an individual copy of the facilitator materials and will then sign an "Individual Contract."
  • It is your responsibility to make sure you are signing the correct contract. The Agency Contract needs to be arranged PRIOR to the training and can be downloaded from our website. If you have any questions about which contract you should be signing, please contact our office. If you do not turn in a contract at the training, you will NOT receive the materials or certificate of completion and you will not be eligible to access the Members-only content of the website.

Go to the registration page for the training you would like to attend. Complete the registration form and select your payment method. When you get to the confirmation page, there is a link to “documents” and you can print your invoice from there to submit. Payment must be received within 30 days or 14 days prior to the start of the training, whichever comes first, or your registration may be canceled. *Please note you must finish the registration process by clicking the “finish” button at the bottom of the page. If you don’t click the “finish” button your registration is incomplete and you will not have a space in the training.

We are a US-based company, and do not charge GST. Please note that all payments are in US Dollars only.

We can accept credit card, direct bank transfer, or check. We can NOT accept Western Union or Paypal. Payments sent via those methods will be refused. For our direct bank transfer details, please email becca[at]circleofsecurityinternational[dot]com. Please remember that all payments are in US Dollars only. All fees to send money are at registrant’s expense.

Parenting DVD

An “Individual Contract” is the most typical and establishes an agreement between the attendee and Circle of Security International regarding their responsibilities as a Registered Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator, as well as being responsible for the USB or DVD and Manuals. These contracts will be made available on the last day of the training.

The COSP™ USB/DVD can only be obtained after completing the Parenting Facilitator training. You can find out more information about the training on the About Trainings page.
